Anna Kendrick's 'Trolls' Interview With Kelly Clarkson: Watch

Relatable.

Kelly Clarkson, Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake couldn't all be together to celebrate the release of Trolls World Tour on Friday (April 10), but they virtually connected for an at-home edition of The Kelly Clarkson Show -- and had some special guests.

During a segment where they all had to find something nearby that's related to them, Kendrick and Timberlake whipped out dolls of their respective Troll characters, Poppy and Branch. "I stole my kid's toy," Timberlake quipped, only for Clarkson to one-up them: "I got one better than that -- I stole my kid."

Clarkson's 5-year-old daughter River was first to join the video chat, quickly followed by 3-year-old son Remy. The "Piece by Piece" singer introduced her costars by their characters' names because the kids had fittingly just finished watching Trolls. "I love her acting," River said of Kendrick's character, which naturally made the actress gush.

Kendrick loves her Trolls character too -- so much that she couldn't resist buying the Poppy Lego set at Target. "The day before things got really crazy [with the coronavirus], I went to Target to get supplies and stuff, and while I was there, I was like, 'I should get Legos, obviously,'" she recalled. After showing off an impressive Lego Millennium Falcon, Kendrick then admitted, "I bought Trolls Legos."

Though Kendrick joked that the cashier probably didn't think it was her because "she wouldn't be buying her own merchandise like an actual serial killer," the actress was seemingly very happy with her purchase: "This is me hanging out and being a winner."

In another clip, Clarkson asked Kendrick and Timberlake if their Trolls characters turned out how they imagined. While Kendrick admitted that some early versions of Poppy were "less than cute," Timberlake says that he now goes through a "weird existential thing" with Branch because the characters are animated by the actors' own expressions.

"So, there are some of the, sort of, mouth movements that go into the character and some of the expressions that we're doing," the "Can't Stop the Feeling!" singer said. "So when you do see the movie back, you're kind of like, 'Oh, that really does look a lot like me.'"

As for Clarkson, she thought her troll's red beehive hairdo resembled a different singer. "Here's the funny think about Delta Dawn: When I saw it, it was like, 'Oh, okay, Reba was busy and then they just asked me,'" she said, referring to country icon Reba McEntire, whom happens to be Clarkson's mother-in-law. "I was like, Grandma's gonna be like, 'Why are you rippin' my style?'"

But it was Clarkson's kids that were most puzzled by her character. "They were just so concerned I was a mean one," she said. "Because in, like, the preview, it looked like I was mean to y'all, because I was at first. They were so mad. They were like, 'We can't even. You're not our mom because you're mean, like, to Poppy.' They were not about it."
