BTS taking extended break | The Music Universe

Label has announced the group’s hiatus

K-pop (Korean pop) superstars BTS are taking an extended break for the first time since the group’s formation. Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook have gained popularity around the world while breaking many records, including scoring a GRAMMY nomination. The group’s label, Big Hit Entertainment, shared the message over the weekend, claiming the group needs some time away.

“We would like to announce that for the first time since their debut, BTS will be going on an official and extended period of rest and relaxation,” the label shares Twitter.

“This period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of BTS, who have relentless sic] driven themselves towards their goal since their debut, to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators. This will also provide them with a chance to enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly.”

The group’s final performance before their hiatus was the Lotte Duty Free Family Concert in Korea over the weekend. Individual member plans have not been shared, but the label assures fans the group will return when it’s “refreshed and recharged.”

The statement also requests that fans “show consideration” for the members as they “enjoy their private time off” from the spotlight should any encounters happen.

Since their debut in 2013, the group has gained recognition from their authentic, self-produced music and top-notch performances to the way they interact with their fans. While imparting a positive influence through activities such as the Love Myself campaign and the UN ‘Speak Yourself’ speech, BTS has mobilized millions of fans across the world (named ARMY), topped prominent music charts, sold out worldwide tours including stadiums, have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards like the Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards and a GRAMMY nomination, released three feature films, launched a mobile game and more.
