Canadian EDM Star Delaney Jane Swerves Into the Pop Lane

For those who like to dive in deeper with the ethereal, emotive female voices carrying today’s top EDM productions, Delaney Jane ought to be right up your street.

Perhaps you’ve already been Introduuced without being aware: she’s been featured as a vocalist and topline writer on collaborative releases from a ton of electronic titans for years, ranging from Tiesto (“L’amour toujours” with Dzeko & Torres) to Sigala (“You Don’t Know Me”) to DVBBS (“La La Land”) to Oliver Heldens (“Shades of Grey”), as well as her Juno-nominated “Easy Go” with Grandtheft. (Seriously, check out her “This Is Delaney Jane” Spotify playlist.)

Following the release of her album Dirty Pretty Things in 2019, as well as her single “Somewhere Else” earlier this year, Delaney released her latest single from her forthcoming six-track EP due out this fall, “Want You Now,” via Dirty Pretty Things / AWAL on Friday (August 7). The track was co-produced by Shaun Frank, who co-wrote The Chainsmokers and Halsey‘s inescapable smash, “Closer.”

Like “Somewhere Else,” as opposed to the more banging beats of her massively streamed features and co-writes, Delaney slightly slows down the BPM on her latest solo serving to provide a dreamier, retro-leaning synth-pop moment, way closer in style to Taylor Swift and Allie X territory than EDM festival fare.

“This song was inspired by how lonely life can get out on the road, playing show after show in city after city, far away from the one I love. Anyone who’s ever been in a long distance relationship knows exactly what I’m talking about. It’s not enough to talk and text, you just need to feel them next to you,” Delaney tells MuuMuse.

Feeling lonely? In 2020? “Want You Now” has never felt quite so appropriate. Allow Delaney Jane to sing out your quarantine sorrows.
