Demi Lovato Opens Up About New Song ‘Anyone,’ Her Time in the Hospital and More in Comeback Interview

In one of her most candid interviews yet, Demi Lovato sat down with Zane Lowe on Apple Music's Beats 1 ahead of her upcoming Grammys performance to chat about everything that's gone down in the past two years.

The singer will be making her long-awaited return to music at the award show, where she'll be performing a new song called "Anyone." She told Lowe that the song was written and recorded just four days before her July 2018 overdose and subsequent hospitalization.

“I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself," she said about listening to the song now. “If I ever come back, I want to sing this song,” Lovato recalled thinking during her stay at the hospital.

“I almost listen back and hear these lyrics as a cry for help,” Lovato said of "Anyone." “And you kind of listen back to it and you kind of think, how did nobody listen to this song and think, 'Let’s help this girl?'"

“I was recording it in a state of mind where I felt I was okay, but clearly I wasn’t,” Lovato added. “I even listen back to it and I’m like, ‘Gosh, I wish I could go back in time and help that version of myself.’"

During the 25-minute interview, Lovato also expressed that she's becoming increasingly comfortable talking about what happened to her, and fans can expect another raw song that will tell more of the story.

Beyond music, the singer chatted about her sexuality and hopes to start a family soon, though she’s not sure if she wants that to be with a man or a woman.
