Aespa is coming.

SM Entertainment, the legendary home of BoA, Girls’ Generation and EXO among many other acts over the years, is preparing for the November debut of a brand new girl group.

Aespa will be SM Entertainment’s first girl group since the 2014 debut of Red Velvet. (And yes, the Internet is already abuzz about the curious timing of this debut announcement, given that one of the members of Red Velvet is having a bit of a, uh…moment in the press.) It’s also the agency’s first group to debut since NCT in 2016.

In other words: this is a very big deal.

As of Monday (October 26), the agency has begun to tease out the group’s logo, which was cleverly teased in SuperM’s “One (Monster & Infinity)” music video, as well as its first member: Winter (not to be confused with the artist formerly known as Wynter Gordon), who’s supplying a Taeyeon vibe.

SM also explained that the name “aespa” came from the words “avatar,” “experience,” and “aspect,” with the meaning of “being able to experience a new world through another avatar of yourself.” Although I’m quite sure these girls all exist IRL, that description is giving me some strong K/DA vibes, too.

True to K-pop release fashion, the rest of the girl group details, including all of the members, will be unveiled in the upcoming days and weeks, no doubt through an endless array of teaser photos and videos. But what will we, the fans, be called? The AESPARAGUS? I sure hope so.

Stay tuned. Here come the girls…
