The Weeknd Adds a Little Rosalía to “Blinding Lights,” As a Treat

Recording Academy who?

The Weeknd might have curiously gone without a single nomination at the 2021 Grammys (despite having the longest Top 10 run in Billboard Hot 100 chart history or whatever), but that’s certainly not stopping him from celebrating his commercial and critical success.

And who better to call for a one year anniversary celebration than one of the coolest, hottest girls in the game today?

…La Rosalía!

On Friday (December 4), the After Hours superstar unveiled the remix of his massive smash “Blinding Lights,” which has since set a ridiculous amount of records for the year.

Specifically, the song has “broken the record for the most weeks in both the Billboard Hot 100 Top 5 (33 Weeks) and Top 10 (41 weeks) and has spent an astonishing 52 weeks on the Hot 100 chart, earning the crown from Billboard for ‘Top Hot 100 Song of 2020.’ This year the single was also the top streamed song globally at Spotify and remains #1 at Top 40 radio – spending it’s 7th week in the position – and making it the longest running Top 10 in Mediabase Chart history – 39 weeks & counting. In addition, ‘Blinding Lights’ was the #1 Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Song of 2020, the #1 Billboard Hot R&B Song of 2020 and spent most weeks ever on top of the chart (34), the #1 Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales of 2020 and was the #1 Billboard R&B Streaming Song of 2020.”

Plus, Britney twirled to it on TikTok.

Rosalía reliably delivers in her takes on The Weeknd’s lyrics throughout in both Spanish and English, ensuring that this certified smash is about to have an even longer streaming shelf life. The two also make for one sexy pair in the Dylan Coughran-directed behind-the-scenes lyric video. And, excitingly, this will only raise the entirely deserving El mal querer singer’s star even higher up in the sky.

What a win for everyone involved.

After Hours is available now as a limited 2X LP.
